POONCH: To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, the Municipal Council Poonch today kick-started a comprehensive Ward-Wise, Mohalla-Wise Safayi Abhiyan, beginning from Mohallah Sarain and Mohallah Qasaban. The campaign covered all 17 wards of the Municipal Council, with sanitation teams undertaking focused cleanliness activities across designated mohallas.

Earlier in the morning, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to all Safai Karamcharis in recognition of their dedicated services and contribution towards keeping the town clean.

Thereafter, the entire sanitation staff proceeded to the designated mohallas and carried out the Safayi Abhiyan. Various religious places, including a bowli, were also cleaned as part of the drive. The entire staff of Municipal Council Poonch remained present during the launch.

A desilting plan is also being prepared and will be taken up subsequently as part of the cleanliness drive.

The initiative witnessed encouraging participation from locals, former councillors, members of civil society and media representatives, who joined and assisted in the campaign and appreciated the efforts of the Municipal Council. Their participation highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and public cooperation in keeping Poonch clean.

The CEO Municipal Council Khalil A. Banday appealed to the people not to throw garbage in the open and focus on source segregation of waste and extend their cooperation to the municipal sanitation teams.

The Ward-Wise, Mohalla-Wise Safayi Abhiyan marks a renewed collective effort by the Municipal Council, sanitation workforce, locals, civil society and media towards building a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful Poonch.
