BARAMULLA: Continuing its sustained efforts to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from online financial fraud, J&K Police in Baramulla has successfully recovered ₹6.70 lakh out of the total defrauded amount of ₹11.70 lakh in connection with FIR No. 03/2026, registered under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The recovery was achieved through sustained investigation, technical analysis, financial tracking and close coordination with the concerned banking authorities, resulting in the recovered amount being refunded to the victim. The investigation was conducted under the close supervision of DySP HQ Sh Shahjahan Chowdhary (JKPS) and led by the SHO Cyber Police Station Baramulla, Insp Sajad Wani along with his investigation team. Through professional investigation, technical expertise and persistent efforts, the team successfully traced and recovered a substantial portion of the defrauded amount further investigation is underway.

Police urges citizens to remain vigilant against cyber and online financial frauds. Never share OTPs, PINs, CVV, passwords, UPI PINs or banking credentials with anyone. Citizens are also advised to avoid suspicious links, unverified applications and unknown QR codes.

In case of any unauthorised transaction or suspected cyber fraud, immediately call 1930, report the incident through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, and inform the concerned bank without delay. Citizens should preserve transaction details, screenshots, phone numbers, messages and other relevant digital evidence to facilitate prompt investigation and recovery. Police reiterates its commitment to protecting citizens from cyber-enabled financial crimes and urges the public to remain alert, cautious and cyber-aware.
