BANDIPORA: In view of recent drowning incidents and as part of an extensive awareness drive initiated by the District Administration, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Saturday conducted a comprehensive live demonstration and awareness programme at Government Middle School, Athwatoo.

The primary objective of the program was to sensitize the local populace, particularly youth and school children, on drowning prevention, water safety measures, and life-saving rescue techniques during water-related emergencies.

During the session, SDRF personnel demonstrated practical rescue operations, standard operating procedures to follow during flash floods or swift water currents, and essential first-aid measures to be administered before hospital transit.

On the occasion, experts and officials urged the community to exercise utmost caution around vulnerable water bodies, strongly advising children and youth against swimming, bathing, or venturing near perilous stretches of Nallah Madhumati.

The demonstration witnessed active participation from officers and officials representing the Revenue Department, Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), SDRF, Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC), Rural Development Department (RDD), along with local representatives, school faculty, students, and a large gathering of local residents. It is pertinent to mention that similar joint sensitization programmes and live safety demonstrations will continue across vulnerable habitations.
