LEH: The Two-Day National Conference on Buddhism and Local Knowledge Systems in Central Asia, organized by the Department of Geography, Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu concluded successfully at Leh.
Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus and Chairman of the Conference, extended heartfelt thanks to all the distinguished speakers and participants who had come from across the country. He emphasized the importance of carrying forward the outcomes of the deliberations for future academic enrichment.
Dr. Chhering Tandup, Convener of the conference, presented the conference report. He highlighted that more than 30 research papers were presented, covering diverse social, political, geographical, economic, and historical aspects of Buddhism and its connections with Central Asia. The sessions also delved into the knowledge traditions of Buddhism originating in Central Asia. A panel discussion brought together eminent personalities to share perspectives on the historical and traditional knowledge systems of Buddhism, followed by an engaging Question and Answer session.
Shri C. Phunchok, Former Chief Secretary of the erstwhile J&K State and First Vice-Chancellor of Ladakh University, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He congratulated the organizers for the successful event, noting that the conference has introduced new dimensions in the study of Buddhism and expressed hope that it would further expand scholarly horizons on the teachings of Lord Buddha.
Prof. B.W. Pandey from Delhi University, the Guest of Honour, commended the quality of the research papers and appreciated the organizers for their efforts in ensuring high academic standards. Special Guest Shri Tsering Samphel noted that the conference enriched collective knowledge of Buddhism and particularly benefitted the youth, expressing optimism for similar events in the future.
The valedictory session also included a certificate distribution ceremony, during which all participants received presentation certificates. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shayan Javeed, Incharge Head, Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus, who expressed gratitude to all speakers, participants, and organizers for making the conference a resounding success.
