KUPWARA: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sh. Gulam Ali Khatana on Tuesday strongly criticized the National Conference (NC) government for “decades of neglect” that have left Kupwara and its remote border regions underdeveloped and deprived of basic facilities. Calling the situation a “betrayal of people’s trust,” Khatana said that despite repeated assurances, residents continue to face hardships due to poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, limited educational opportunities, and slow economic growth.
“Kupwara is one of the most beautiful and promising regions of Jammu & Kashmir. Its people are hardworking, courageous, and full of strength. Yet, decades of NC’s failed policies have deprived them of their rightful progress. It’s time for change — and the BJP is fully committed to delivering that change through justice, development, and equal opportunities for all,” he declared.
During his visit to Dakbunglow, Kupwara, Khatana engaged extensively with BJP workers, local leaders, and community representatives to gain a firsthand understanding of the daily struggles faced by citizens. He listened attentively to their concerns regarding poor roads, insufficient healthcare facilities, lack of quality educational institutions, and other critical infrastructure deficiencies. Following these interactions, he conducted a comprehensive review meeting with all departments, critically assessing ongoing and stalled development projects. Khatana stressed the urgent need for swift implementation of these projects, prioritizing road connectivity, healthcare, and education — essential pillars for the socio-economic growth of the region.
“The government’s failures have directly impacted people’s day-to-day lives and hindered Kupwara’s progress for far too long. This apathy must end immediately. Kupwara has immense potential, and it deserves a government that works tirelessly to ensure that every family, every village, and every citizen receives their rightful share of development, progress, and opportunities,” he emphasized, reiterating the BJP’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Khatana also met with local businessmen in Kupwara’s main bazaar to discuss initiatives by the Government of India aimed at boosting trade, generating employment, and empowering small-scale entrepreneurs. He highlighted GST reforms and other measures under the Modi-led government designed to simplify business processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and strengthen the local economy. “We are creating an environment where small businesses can thrive, generate local employment, and contribute to Kupwara’s economic growth from within,” he said.
In addition, Khatana interacted with prominent citizens, social activists, and representatives of public delegations, carefully listening to their grievances and suggestions on civic issues, long-pending infrastructure projects, and public welfare. He assured that their concerns will be translated into concrete developmental actions. “People’s voices are at the heart of every democratic decision. Kupwara’s citizens have waited too long for tangible results, and we will make sure their needs are addressed on priority,” he promised.
During the visit, Khatana also paid respects to families in bereavement. He visited the residence of Mr. A. B. Rehman Lone at Awoora-B, Kralpora, and the residence of Lt. Ch. Salam Din at Bajar Warsun-Gujjran to offer condolences, expressing solidarity with the grieving families and assuring them of his support.
Highlighting the district’s untapped potential, Khatana emphasized opportunities in tourism, horticulture, and border trade. “Kupwara is not just a border district — it is a land full of possibilities. Our mission is to connect every remote village, empower every household, and unlock every avenue of progress that can uplift the lives of our people,” he stated.
Concluding his visit, Khatana reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to transparency, good governance, accountability, and inclusive development. “No region, village, or community should feel forgotten. Kupwara has been overlooked for too long — but that ends now. Together, we will ensure that every family has access to quality basic amenities, every youth has employment opportunities, and every corner of this district is connected to progress and prosperity,” he asserted.
The visit was attended by prominent BJP leaders, including Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah, Former MLC and District President; Kulsoom Khan, District Vice President; Advocate Zubair, District Secretary; Dilshad Begum; former District Presidents Mohammad Shafi Mir and A. B. Rehman Lone; Fezan Ali Lone, Social Media Incharge; Mir Bashrat, District Spokesperson; constituency Presidents Sheikh Javed, Mir Shabir, Bilal Ahmed Lone, and Zhoor Ahmad Lone. Their active participation underscored the party’s collective commitment to addressing the concerns of Kupwara’s citizens.
