PULWAMA, ANANTNAG, HANDWARA & AWANTIPORA: As part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and consumer rights, particularly in view of the prevailing flood situation, J&K Police in collaboration with the Food Safety Departments, Municipal Committees and Revenue carried out an extensive market checking drive in Pulwama, Anantnag, Handwara & Awantipora.

In Pulwama, J&K Police carried out market checking in various areas of the district to ensure sale of fresh and hygienic meat at shops and restaurants. Inspection teams in collaboration with the Revenue and Food Safety Departments inspected Several establishments and strict instructions were given to maintain cleanliness and avoid sale of rotten meat. Shopkeepers were warned of legal action in case of violations.

In Anantnag, J&K Police carried out extensive market checking across the district in coordination with officials of the Food Safety Department. During the drive, several food outlets and vendors were inspected to ensure that no rotten or unfit material is kept for sale. The joint teams of Police and Food Safety officials checked markets at Anantnag town and other major locations of the district.

In Handwara, surprise checks were conducted in markets, shops, and roadside stalls with focus on food quality, expiry dates, pricing, and hygiene standards. During the drive, one food outlet was found selling unsafe and noxious items, posing a potential threat to public health. Accordingly, Case FIR No. 204/2025 under Sections 271 and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita was registered at Police Station Handwara.

In Awantipora, different teams headed by supervisory officers along with SHOs, in coordination with the Food Safety Department and Municipal Committees, conducted inspections of various restaurants/ shops falling under the jurisdiction of Police District Awantipora. During the inspection, rotten and unhygienic edible items were found in several establishments including restaurants. The same were destroyed on the spot and fine was imposed.

Strict instructions were issued to the restaurant owners and other shopkeepers to maintain proper hygiene and adhere to food safety standards, failing which strict action under relevant provisions shall be initiated. J&K Police has urged citizens to remain cautious, report any malpractice, and cooperate in maintaining a hygienic and fair marketplace.
