JAMMU: The Department of Economics in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences organized an impressive Orientation Programme today under the patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, to welcome the newly admitted students into the department. The event was engaging and insightful, setting the tone for the academic journey of the freshers in the campus.
The programme was graced by Sh. Amit Kumar, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Jammu region, as the Chief Guest. The event commenced with a warm welcome followed by an address from Prof. Aswini Kumar Nanda, Head, Department of Economics, who extended his greetings to the new batch and encouraged them to embrace academic rigour and co-curricular activities during their tenure in the university while maintaining discipline and camaraderie. Faculty members namely Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Ms. Preeti Gupta, Dr. Anil Kumar Bharti, Dr. Vishal, and Dr. Anooj also shared their observations, motivating the students to pursue excellence and make full use of them department’s vibrant academic ecosystem.
A specially curated departmental video, presented by Sh. Tanishwar, student of semester-III, provide the newcomers with an overview of the department’s legacy, facilities and academic strength. A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Department’s first-ever magazine, prepared by the Economics Society. A soft copy of the magazine was showcased to the students, after which a formal presentation was made to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain who appreciated the contribution of the students as a team.The interactive session saw junior students introducing themselves, while seniors shared their personal experiences, guidance, and memories in campus, creating a strong sense of camaraderie. The Q&A session was extremely productive for the freshers.
Delivering his address, Chief Guest, Sh. Amit Kumar spoke in detail about NABARD’s pivotal role in rural development, financial inclusion, and sustainable growth, and encouraged students to align their learning with practical applications in the field of economics. He also outlined various career opportunities in the banking sector and extolled the students to make the most of their stay in the campus. His message served as an inspiration for the young audience.
The cultural element of the programme included a soulful song performance by Pranvi, Semester I, which was applauded by all.The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Ms. Nandani Jamwal, student of semester-V, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, for his constant support and guidance, and to the dignitaries, faculty members, organising team, and students for making the programme a grand success.
