DODA: District Doda today joined the nation in celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda — the legendary tribal freedom fighter and a revered symbol of indigenous identity and resistance.
A grand commemorative programme was organised at Town Hall Doda, where the District Administration along with representatives from Tribal communities, gathered to honour the extraordinary life and legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The event began with the lighting of the traditional lamp, symbolising respect and gratitude toward the iconic leader.
The ceremony showcased a colourful array of cultural performances presented by the students of the Gujjar-Bakarwal Boys and Girls Hostels. The audience was captivated by traditional dances and soulful tribal songs that highlighted the cultural vibrancy and diversity of tribal communities. A special theatrical act depicting Birsa Munda’s historic uprising against British colonial rule received high appreciation for its powerful narrative and inspiring execution.
The officials from District Administration Doda highlighted the need to acknowledge and preserve the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities, recognising their invaluable contributions to the socio-cultural fabric of the nation. They also emphasised ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting tribal art, traditions and welfare schemes focused on empowerment and inclusion.
Mohammad Hanief Kohli, Warden of the Gujjar & Bakerwal Boys Hostel Doda, hosted the programme as the Nodal Officer for Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025. The event witnessed the presence of ADDC Roshan Lal; CAO, DDC members, CAHO, CEO, EO Municipal Council, CDPOs, BDOs, faculty members of the Gujjar-Bakarwal Hostels and other officers and officials from various departments.
