JAMMU: The Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas was celebrated with enthusiasm at Panchayat Bhawan Jammu today as part of nationwide tributes being paid to tribal icon and freedom fighter Birsa Munda marking the 150th birth anniversary.
The programme witnessed the presence of DDC Chairman Bharat Bhushan as the chief guest. During the event, certificates were handed over to 50 beneficiaries of various key government schemes, by Rural Development, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture and other departments, reaffirming the government's commitment towards the upliftment of tribal populations.
Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Shahzada Noor ul Ain, Assistant Commissioner Development Danish Rasool Mir, Deputy Director Employment Sunaina Saini, besides Block Development Officers, were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, DDC Chairman Bharat Bhushan recalled Birsa Munda’s significant contribution in the fight for India’s freedom and his remarkable efforts for the conservation of forests and ecology. He said Birsa Munda’s life, sacrifice and dedication have immortalised him in Indian history and echoed Prime Minister Modi’s belief that India’s progress is incomplete without the upliftment of its tribal communities.
A live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas address was displayed during the assembly, enabling government officials and members of the public to witness the Prime Minister’s tribute to Birsa Munda and the ongoing efforts for tribal welfare across the country.
