JAMMU: The Department of Home Science, Government College for Women, Parade, organized a Two-day’s workshop on Preservation Techniques on 2nd and 3rd December 2025 under the able guidance of worthy Principal, Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo.
The workshop aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and hands-on skills in food preservation techniques. The resource persons for the workshop were Sh. Sanjeev Kumar Karlupia, Deputy Director, Canning and Processing, and Ms. Shreshtha Gaur, Manager-cum-Chemist, Fruit Craft Institute, Chand Nagar, Jammu. Experts from the Food Craft Centre conducted this comprehensive workshop, covering various food preservation methods including canning, pickling, dehydration, and modern vacuum sealing techniques.
The hands-on demonstration allowed students to practice the preservation methods under expert guidance, with a special focus on preserving seasonal local fruits and vegetables. Students actively participated and gained valuable hands-on experience in preparing preserved food products. The workshop not only enhanced their practical understanding but also enriched their skill set for future academic and professional pursuits.
The workshop was organized with the support of Dr. Nitu Sharma, Head of the Department of Home Science, along with other faculty members of the department. Their coordinated efforts ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the workshop. Principal of GCW Parade Ground Jammu, Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo appreciated the efforts of the organizing team of Home Science Department.
He emphasized that event like these not only enhance students technical knowledge but also prepare them for future careers in industries and their self start ups. Dr. Nitu Sharma, Head of the Department expressed gratitude to the resource persons for their insightful lecture cum demonstrations and to the college administration for their continuous encouragement.
