UDHAMPUR: District Administration Udhampur, in collaboration with the Gujjar–Bakerwal, Gaddi Sippi Hostel Udhampur, today celebrated Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. The event was held at the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex.
Additional District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Jugal Kishore was the chief guest. The program was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; PO Poshan Subash Dogra; Assistant Commissioner Development Om Parkash; Chief Medical Officer Dr Anil Manhas, officers from the line departments, prominent citizens, students and members of the tribal community.
While addressing the gathering, the chief guest highlighted the significance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, celebrated annually to honor the remarkable contributions of tribal communities in preserving India’s cultural heritage and upholding values of national pride, courage and hospitality. He praised the distinctive work culture of the tribal community and emphasized the need to protect their rich traditions while promoting inclusivity and unity.
He extended warm congratulations and best wishes to all participants. Urging the community to emulate the ideals of Birsa Munda, who bravely led a rebellion against British rule, the ADDC informed the participants about various welfare schemes launched by the Government of India for the upliftment of tribal communities. He encouraged them to come forward and avail the benefits of these initiatives aimed at promoting economic development and empowerment.
The celebration featured vibrant cultural performances by students of the Gujjar–Bakerwal and Gaddi Sippi Hostel, who presented traditional folk songs and enthralling dance performances showcasing the rich tribal heritage. The performances were widely appreciated by the audience.
Students of the Gujjar–Bakerwal Hostel, along with prominent citizens from the tribal community, also delivered inspiring speeches, paying tribute to the legacy of Birsa Munda and applauding the government’s decision to commemorate his contributions through Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.
Later, the ADDC distributed sewing machines and school bags among tribal community members and students of the Gujjar–Bakerwal Hostel under the Social Welfare Department. Meritorious students from the tribal community were also felicitated for their outstanding academic achievements.
