KULGAM: The District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) Kulgam, in collaboration with the Tehsil Legal Services Committee D. H. Pora, today observed the International Day of Specially-Abled Persons by organising a programme at the Court Complex, D. H. Pora.

During the program, speakers highlighted the rights of specially-abled persons, the responsibilities of society, and the importance of awareness and education in fostering an inclusive environment. Specially-abled participants also shared their experiences and raised various issues and concerns before the authorities.

Chairman of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Nisar ul Haq Khan, emphasised key provisions related to the rights and welfare of specially-abled persons and underscored the need for creating a more inclusive and supportive system. He assured that the Legal Services Authorities/Committees will continue to extend full assistance and directed the line departments to take timely measures to address their grievances.

District Social Welfare Officer Kulgam, Snobar Altaf Wani, deliberated on the welfare schemes, prosthetic aids, and benefits being provided by the Social Welfare Department. She added that the department is commitment to ensuring the wellbeing and upliftment of specially-abled persons. Principal of Model Higher Secondary School D. H. Pora highlighted government initiatives aimed at supporting specially-abled individuals.

SHO PS D. H. Pora briefed the gathering on the assistance being provided by the police and assured full cooperation in all matters concerning the welfare of specially-abled persons. The event witnessed participation from specially-abled persons, , officials from the Social Welfare Department, ICPS, police officials, lawyers, civil society members, PLVs, teachers, and students.
