• Speakers pitch for a barrier free society

UDHAMPUR: An awareness program on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was today organized by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Udhampur under the guidance and supervision of Virinder Singh Bhou (Principal District & Sessions Judge/ Chairman DLSA) and Sumati Sharma (Secretary, DLSA) here at PG College (Boys).

District Mobile Magistrate (T) Rishabh Koushal and Panel Lawyer Advocate Sanjeet Kumar were resource persons. The program aimed to generate awareness about the rights and challenges of persons with disabilities.

The resource persons spoke on the importance of creating a barrier-free society, ensuring equal opportunities and promoting accessibility for persons with disabilities. They discussed the need to create a supportive environment, ensure social security and empower persons with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.

They highlighted the need for infrastructure development, such as ramps, accessible toilets and Braille signage to facilitate ease of movement for persons with disabilities. They also threw light on the legal rights and entitlements of persons with disabilities, citing the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The program raised awareness about the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, inspiring efforts towards a more supportive and inclusive society. Similar programs were held at TLSC Ramnagar, Chenani and Majalta.
