BANDIPORA: The Horticulture Department Bandipora organised a series of awareness programmes and field demonstrations at Izmerg, Gurez over the past two days with an aim to educate orchardists about modern horticultural practices and techniques for improving fruit yield and quality.
During the programme, practical demonstrations on canopy management, including pruning techniques in apple orchards, were conducted to acquaint farmers with scientific methods for maintaining tree health and enhancing productivity.
HDO Gurez, Dr. Shahid and HDO Bandipora, Dr. Abass, made live demonstrations on apple cutting, pruning, and training, which were highly appreciated by the participants. The interactive sessions allowed farmers to gain hands-on experience and address their field-level queries related to orchard management.
As part of the initiative, secateurs were distributed among 120 beneficiaries to encourage adoption of proper pruning and maintenance practices in their orchards. The programme also featured an awareness camp highlighting various departmental schemes, subsidies, and support available to farmers for orchard development and infrastructure creation.
The event was supervised by Chief Horticulture Officer Bandipora, Pawan Kumar Thakur who emphasised the departmentâs commitment to promoting scientific cultivation practices in the high-altitude areas of Gurez. Other staff members of the Horticulture Department were also present on the occasion.
