KATRA: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized aWorld AIDS Day awareness program that included a speech contest, a themed address on UBA and World AIDS Day, and a poster-making competition.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness aboutHIV/AIDS, promote social responsibility, and emphasize the importance of youth in spreadingawareness and supporting community outreach. The event began with an introduction to the goals ofWorld AIDS Day and UBA, followed by a thematic address delivered by Anooshi Wangoo, whohighlighted UBAâs vision of connecting higher education institutions with rural communities and itsconnection to the global fight against HIV/AIDS.
She emphasized the importance of awareness,inclusivity, and the responsibility of educated youth to support social causes, stressing the need to endstigma, provide accessible healthcare, and strengthen prevention and counseling efforts.
As part of theawareness campaign, a speech contest focused on topics like HIV/AIDS awareness, reducing stigma,and social responsibility. Participants delivered impactful speeches emphasizing prevention, empathyfor people living with HIV, and the role of students in fostering an informed society. Based oncontent, delivery, and overall impact, Leonn won first place, followed by Tanvi and Abhishey, whowere recognized for their clarity, confidence, and dedication.
A poster-making contest on HIV/AIDSawareness, prevention, and compassion was also held, where students created creative andinformative posters highlighting key messages on safe practices, testing, empathy, and communitysupport. UBA volunteers evaluated the entries under the supervision of UBA Coordinator Dr. BharatBhushan Jindal, and the winners were announced as Anant Yadav (first place), Navya (second place), and Preeti (third place).
All participants were appreciated for their meaningful contributions to visualawareness on World AIDS Day. The event was smoothly organized by UBA volunteers AkarshanSanmotra, Bhavana, Saloni Singh, Rydhm Bhau, and Anooshi Wangoo, under the guidance of Dr.Bharat Bhushan Jindal, ensuring seamless coordination from planning through prize distribution.
Theprogram effectively combined education, competition, and social consciousness, reinforcing theimportance of ongoing HIV/AIDS awareness and showcasing the proactive role of SMVDU studentsin national and global health observances.
