SRINAGAR: On the eve of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, Jammu and Kashmir Police organised a series of programmes across the Kashmir valley to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day). The events were aimed at spreading awareness about national integration, communal harmony, and the values of unity and brotherhood that Sardar Patel championed.
Across the Kashmir valley, J&K Police organised a series of programmes to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas witnessing enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, civil society members, panchayat representatives, and local residents. In Awantipora, a seminar was held at Hajahad Public School along with public meetings at Panchayat Ghar Aripal Tral and Pampore. In Anantnag, an awareness-cum-counselling programme was organised at Pahalgam, a seminar on “Achievements and Legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel” at Government Degree College Anantnag, and a Padyatra at Mattan.
In Sopore, public meetings were held at Police Stations Dangiwacha and Tarzoo, besides a cleanliness drive at Government High School Hardshiva. In Handwara, various educational institutions including Government Degree College Handwara, Supernaghama Public School, and Police Station Qalamabad hosted awareness programmes. In Shopian, sessions on new criminal laws and drug abuse prevention were held at National Innovative Public School Zainapora and Government High School Batfojen Chown. In Pulwama, awareness programmes and symposiums were organised at Women Police Station Pulwama and Police Station Rajpora.
In Ganderbal, an essay and quiz competition was conducted at Islamic Revival International School Kangan, while in Kulgam, seminars on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contribution to national integration were organised at Altaf Memorial Degree College Kilam Devsar and Imperial Convent School Kulgam. Moreover, in Bandipora, a series of awareness programmes & cleanliness drives were held in Sumbal, Aragam, Gurez, Hajin and Tulail.
Speakers at various venues highlighted the monumental role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in unifying the nation and urged citizens to uphold his ideals of peace, discipline, and unity in diversity. In several events, citizen-centric policing initiatives such as Zero FIR, encouraging people to stay informed and cooperative in maintaining social harmony were discussed.
Participants paid rich tributes to Sardar Patel and expressed gratitude towards J&K Police for organizing such community outreach programmes that strengthen the bond between police and the public. Through these valley-wide initiatives, J&K Police reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and communal harmony, reaffirming its role as a bridge between communities and a guardian of national integrity.
