JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, under the leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, joined the nation in celebrating the inauguration of the year-long commemoration of 150 years of India’s National Song, “Vande Mataram” at its Mandapam Auditorium, Jagti Campus.

The celebrations coincided with the national event inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, marking the beginning of a year-long tribute to the song composed by Shri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875—a symbol of India’s freedom, unity, and pride.

At IIM Jammu, the event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address. The highlight was the collective rendition of “Vande Mataram”, sung in unison by faculty, staff, and students, led by Prof. Sahay along with Prof. Jabir Ali, Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dr. Harsha Jariwala, and Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal.

Prof. Sahay, in his address, invoked the spirit of “Vande Mataram” as a timeless call to serve the nation, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for transforming the occasion into a national festival. He reaffirmed IIM Jammu’s commitment to participate actively in the year-long celebration through cultural, academic, and creative initiatives, including the International Painting Symposium and the Basohli Art Symposium.

He urged everyone to contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasizing unity, service, and the preservation of India’s cultural heritage.

Prof. Jabir Ali highlighted the song’s role in rekindling national spirit, while Prof. Nitin Upadhyay described “Vande Mataram” as a timeless inspiration teaching conviction, unity, and resilience.

The event concluded with a vibrant display of patriotism, symbolizing India’s unity in diversity. Coordinated by the Office of Student Affairs, the program witnessed enthusiastic participation from the entire IIM Jammu fraternity.

The celebrations reaffirmed IIM Jammu’s dedication to nurturing socially responsible, value-driven leaders, carrying forward the eternal message of “Vande Mataram” — India’s anthem of unity, strength, and pride.
