JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu under the leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu andunder the guidance of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is proud to join the nationwide initiative of the Fit India Freedom Run 6.0. The sixth edition of this national campaign is being held with the theme Swachchhta and Swasthya (Cleanliness and Health) from 2nd October to 31st October 2025 to create awareness on health, fitness, and hygiene across the country.

To mark the culmination of this month-long initiative, IIM Jammu will organize a Unity Run on 31st October 2025 in the morning hours at the IIM Jammu Jagti Campus, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. The Unity Run aims to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and social harmony while reiterating the importance of cleanliness as a way of life.

Emphasizing the importance of the initiative, Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, observed that the Fit India Freedom Run is not merely an event but a transformational movement that instills a culture of fitness and national responsibility among citizens. He stated that the theme Swachchhta and Swasthya resonates with the national vision of Shri Narendra Modi Ji, The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, who has consistently encouraged citizens to embrace fitness and cleanliness as a part of life. He reiterated that IIM Jammu continues to promote holistic development by nurturing both physical well-being and intellectual discipline among its students, faculty, and staff.

Participants will include IIM Jammu faculty, staff, students, administrative officials in line with the spirit of inclusivity envisioned under the Fit India Mission. The institution is committed to encouraging mass participation in alignment with the national vision of a Fit and Healthy India.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu mentioned that the Fit India Freedom Run reflects the institute’s commitment to nurturing disciplined, energetic, and socially responsible youth. He stated that such initiatives go beyond physical fitness and inspire students to adopt a constructive and purpose-driven approach to life. He further added that activities like the Debate Competition encourage students to engage with national priorities, develop informed perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to the vision of a progressive India.

Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu stated that the Fit India Freedom Run is a meaningful initiative that reflects the true spirit of a healthy and progressive nation. He mentioned that such activities not only promote physical fitness but also instill values of perseverance, teamwork, and self-discipline among students. He added that platforms like the Debate Competition encourage analytical thinking, clarity of expression, and constructive dialogue, preparing students to become responsible and enlighten future leaders.

Dr. Harsha Jariwala, Co-Chairperson, Student Affairs, IIM Jammu said that the Fit India Freedom Run encourages students to build healthy habits and a sense of collective responsibility. She added that such initiatives foster team spirit, wellness, and an active campus culture.

As part of the day's events, a Debate Competition will also be organized in the evening at the Jagti Campus, focusing on themes related to national unity, cleanliness, fitness, and civic responsibility. The competition aims to inspire young minds to engage in meaningful discussions promoting social consciousness and responsible citizenship.

Launched in 2020 by the Government of India, the Fit India Freedom Run motivates citizens to incorporate simple physical activities such as running, jogging, and walking into their daily routines. It has evolved into a people’s movement that combines fitness awareness with patriotism and civic consciousness. IIM Jammu reaffirms its commitment to contributing to initiatives of national importance and remains dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and responsible citizens among the youth of the nation.
