DODA: An awareness event was organized today here in the Town Hall to mark the observance of the World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day. The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, who appreciated the initiative taken for such an important public health cause. The event was aimed at raising awareness about cervical cancer, its causes, prevention and the global commitment to its elimination.

The medical professionals delivered informative lectures, highlighting the importance of the day -a global milestone achieved in 2020 when 194 countries under the WHO-led movement pledged to eliminate cervical cancer. They emphasized the role of HPV vaccination, high-performance screening and timely treatment as essential strategies to protect women’s health and ensure equity in healthcare access.

A detailed PPT presentation was delivered, explaining the root causes of cervical cancer, particularly the role of the HPV virus and the importance of preventive vaccination, especially for girls aged 9 to 14 years.  An interactive session followed and the participants raised multiple queries regarding vaccination, symptoms, screening intervals and prevention strategies.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Harvinder Singh appreciated the organisers for holding such a meaningful programme for a human cause. He said that the awareness campaigns are being conducted across schools, colleges and community platforms to promote women healthcare.
