• DC Calls for Unified, Sustained Action Against Drug Abuse across District

BUDGAM: District Budgam today marked the completion of five years of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) with a comprehensive pledge and signature campaign organised across the district, highlighting the administration’s strong commitment to fight substance abuse and safeguard the youth. A central event was organised at the District Headquarters where the pledge was administered by the Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat.

During the occasion, the DC emphasised on strengthening institutional coordination, enhancing community vigilance, and ensuring consistent awareness programmes to counter the growing threat of drug abuse. He stressed that the success of NMBA depends on the combined and sincere efforts of families, educational institutions, civil society groups, and enforcement agencies, and that every individual in the district bears a responsibility in nurturing a drug-free environment.

The DC also highlighted that early identification, counselling, rehabilitation support, and youth engagement initiatives must continue to be prioritised to prevent vulnerable individuals from falling prey to addiction. He further underlined that strict enforcement against drug peddlers shall continue, while equal focus will be maintained on supporting affected persons through compassionate rehabilitation measures, ensuring that NMBA’s objectives are implemented at both preventive and corrective levels.

The DC reiterated that NMBA will continue to be implemented vigorously throughout Budgam with expanded outreach, stronger inter-departmental coordination, and community-driven initiatives aimed at prevention, awareness, enforcement, and rehabilitation. The event witnessed active participation from the Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Budgam, all SDMs, DSWO, and other senior district officers, who joined the signature campaign and reaffirmed their departmental commitment to contributing to a drug-free Budgam.

Simultaneously, the Nasha Mukht pledge was conducted in all colleges and educational institutions across District Budgam, engaging thousands of students, teachers, and staff members. Awareness sessions, interactions, and sensitisation activities were also organised to educate youth about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and the importance of responsible decision-making. The district-wide observance show-cases renewed collective resolve from all stakeholders to intensify efforts and work in complete unity to ensure a safe, healthy, and drug-free Budgam.
