• 36 Young girls participate in trials; 1,122 individuals Join anti-drug awareness activities across the District

POONCH: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Poonch today organised Inter-Zone District-Level Trial-cum-Selection Competitions for Under-17 and Under-19 girls in the discipline of Kurash and under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

A total of 36 young female sportspersons from different zones of the district participated in the selection trials, demonstrating their sporting skills, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence.

The event aimed to identify talented players for further representation at higher-level competitions, while encouraging girls to actively participate in sports and physical activities.

Alongside the sports activities, various zones across District Poonch continued to organise programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, with around 1,122 individuals taking part in anti-drug awareness initiatives. These activities highlighted the importance of sports, fitness and a healthy lifestyle in preventing substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.

The entire programme was conducted under the overall supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Poonch, Mohd Qasim, with the guidance and coordination of Activity In-charge Vijay Kumar Sharma.

The Department reiterated its commitment to promoting sports among young people, encouraging greater participation of girls in sporting disciplines and strengthening the ongoing campaign against drug abuse through sports and awareness activities. The initiative reflects the department’s continued efforts towards building a healthy, active and drug-free society in District Poonch.
