REASI: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik today chaired a meeting to review the overall progress of the Cooperative Department, with a special focus on its physical and financial achievements across the district. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a comprehensive appraisal of key areas, including the registration of new cooperative societies, revival of defunct cooperatives, functioning of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), implementation of centrally sponsored schemes and progress under the Computerization of PACS initiative.
The DC also reviewed the ongoing initiatives and functioning of various cooperative institutions, assessing their physical progress, financial performance, and business turnover. She emphasised the need for timely execution, transparent reporting and enhanced operational efficiency within the department.
It was informed in the meeting that Marketing Societies and Common Service Centres (CSCs) are functioning under the Cooperative sector. Officers further briefed that a food processing unit at Bhambla, established through a Cooperative Society, will be inaugurated soon. This facility is expected to boost local economic activities and benefit the community by creating opportunities for value addition and livelihood generation.
She underscored the importance of strengthening grassroots cooperative structures and directed the department to expedite efforts to achieve the set targets. She called for close monitoring of field activities and regular review of business operations to ensure accountability, transparency and improved service delivery to the public.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the department to work with renewed commitment to maximise the benefits of government schemes and ensure that cooperative institutions contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the district. CPO, Narinder Kumar, Deputy Registrar Cooperative, Bhawani Attri and other officials from the department were present in the meeting.
