JAMMU: Narayana Schools observed World Mental Health Day with a series of joyful activities designed to promote emotional well-being, mindfulness, and positivity among students. The celebrations encouraged children to express their feelings freely, practise gratitude, and develop self-awareness to recognise their emotions, cope with stress, and seek help when needed. The initiative also aimed to remind students that reaching out for support is a sign of strength, and that caring for oneâs mind is just as important as caring for oneâs body.
130 Counsellors from Narayanaâs Disha Mental Well-being Programme, along with teachers, led interactive sessions highlighting the importance of staying calm, kind, and connected. Discussions focused on real challenges faced by students, including difficulties with concentration, adapting to new environments, family issues, and low self-confidence, while reinforcing the importance of seeking help and sharing emotions.
One of the dayâs highlights was the Balloon Breathing Activity, conducted by Team Disha, where students symbolically released their worries into balloons through mindful breathing before letting them float away, a simple yet powerful exercise to let go of emotional burdens and find calm. Other activities like âShake It Offâ and âGratitude Bouquetâ further encouraged relaxation, movement, and appreciation for othersâ kindness and support.
Shake It Off encouraged students to release tension through rhythmic body movements and light dance therapy, promoting relaxation and positivity.
In the âGratitude Bouquetâ exercise, students created colourful paper bouquets to thank the people who make their lives brighter, parents, teachers, friends, and loved ones. Through this creative activity, they expressed appreciation and reflected on how these individualsâ positive traits, such as kindness, patience, and encouragement, contributed to their own mental well-being.
Speaking about the significance of the day, Ms. Sharani Narayana, Director, Narayana Educational Institutions, said:
âWorld Mental Health Day reminds us that feeling supported, understood, and emotionally connected is essential for every childâs growth and happiness. At Narayana Schools, we work to create that sense of belonging every day through our programmes like- Disha Mental Well-being Programme, which offers counselling, mindfulness practices, and emotional resilience training to thousands of students across our campuses. When children know they are heard, valued, and cared for, they develop the strength to face challenges with positivity and confidence. And when that happens, every parentâs greatest dream of seeing their child happy and healthy is fulfilled.â
