• Says three bodies recovered, four still missing; rescue operation underway

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Friday said that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the Kullu–Manali area, where seven Kashmiri workers were trapped under debris following a massive landslide. The Association expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, urging the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister to ensure that the ongoing rescue operations are carried out swiftly and that the victims’ families are treated with utmost compassion and respect during this difficult time.

National Convenor of Association, Nasir Khuehami, said that Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena and Rajiv Kumar, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, confirmed that three bodies have been recovered so far, while the search for the remaining four workers is still underway. Rescue teams are working continuously to clear the debris despite extremely challenging conditions.

Khuehami said that the Association has been in regular touch with the Himachal authorities regarding the ongoing rescue operations and has been assured that every possible effort is being made to trace the missing workers. Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena informed Khuehami that the rescue operation is being carried out on a war footing, with all available resources mobilized to expedite the process.

However, Khuehami expressed concern and informed the Chief Secretary that the mortal remains already recovered were being transported back to Kashmir in auto-load carriers instead of ambulances. “This manner of repatriation lacks dignity and is deeply unfair to the victims and their grieving families, who deserve to see their loved ones brought home with respect and compassion,” he said.

Responding to the concern, Chief Secretary Saxena assured the Association that proper arrangements will be made to ensure the mortal remains are transported with due dignity, in line with humanitarian values. He added that the state government remains committed to extending all possible support to the affected families.
