SHOPIAN: In a proactive endeavour to foster responsive governance, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta, today undertook an extensive public outreach visit to Melhoora, Zainapora.

During the interaction, villagers apprised the DC of several pressing matters requiring immediate attention. Key issues raised included the reconstruction of the Wachi Daal footbridge which was severely damaged during floods; construction of flood gates at two critical points in the village to mitigate flood-related risks and the construction of a bridge over Rambiara, connecting the village to Batapora Naina Pulwama to enhance accessibility.

The villagers also sought relocation of HT transmission lines passing through agricultural land, macadamisation of various link roads in the area and linking their electricity supply with the Momin Receiving Station to improve power reliability.

Another significant concern highlighted was the presence of a temporary hut-like structure, constructed during the 2014 floods, within the premises of High School Melhoora. The villagers sought removal of this structure and replacement with a permanent building to augment the school's infrastructure.

DC gave a patient hearing to all highlighted issues and assured prompt and time-bound action on each issue in coordination with the concerned departments. He reiterated the administration's unwavering commitment to resolving genuine public grievances and accelerating developmental works across the district on a fast-track basis. The DC was accompanied by SDM, Zainapora, Bilal Ahmad and officers from line departments.
