JAMMU: Pawan Sharma, BJP State Secretary (Jammu & Kashmir), today strongly criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his deeply irresponsible and provocative comments regarding the ongoing SMVDU Medical College admission issue. Sharma asserted that instead of addressing the genuine concerns of the youth of Jammu and ensuring fairness in admissions, the Chief Minister has chosen to give the controversy an unnecessary political and divisive colour.
Sharma stated that equating the aspirations of Jammu’s students with alleged threats to Kashmiri students is an attempt to manufacture fear and tension where none exists. “A Chief Minister should unite, not provoke. His remarks trivialize the aspirations of meritorious students across the region and undermine the credibility of our education system,” he said.
He added that the CM’s controversial insinuation, suggesting that Kashmiri students may be forced to seek admissions abroad due to policy decisions in Jammu—reflects a troubling pattern of political shielding and selective victimhood. “Instead of improving medical education infrastructure, the government is busy creating false narratives. This does not serve the youth of Kashmir or Jammu,” Sharma stated.
Sharma further expressed concern that such rhetoric from the highest office in the state could send a harmful and misleading message to young professionals, pushing them towards destabilizing narratives. “Leaders must act responsibly. Any attempt to justify or encourage radical posturing among educated youth is unacceptable. Medical professionals should be guided towards excellence and service, not political manipulation,” he emphasized.
Calling for full transparency, Sharma demanded that the government stop politicizing educational institutions and instead implement a clear, merit-based, region-sensitive admission policy that safeguards the rights of students from all parts of Jammu & Kashmir. “The youth of Jammu and Kashmir deserve opportunity, stability, and respect—not divisive statements. The Chief Minister must withdraw his remarks and focus on real governance,” Sharma asserted.
