Khatana honors Dr. Ambedkar; says Congress defeated him in elections and weakened his mission for the marginalised

SRINAGAR: Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Senior Leader Gulam Ali Khatana today paid rich floral tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on the occasion of Samvidhan Divas and reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the values of the Constitution by bowing to its sacred copy.

He stated that history itself exposes the Congress party, which not only defeated Dr. Ambedkar in elections but also prevented him from working for the Scheduled Castes and other marginalised communities—showing how the party consistently undermined Babasaheb’s mission.

Khatana said that Dr. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, gifted the nation a visionary document that guarantees justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity to every citizen. “Babasaheb ensured equal respect and equal opportunity for every caste, creed, community, and region. The Constitution embodies a perfect balance of rights and duties for all Indians, and under its guidance, our democracy continues to grow stronger,” he said.

Launching a strong criticism of the Congress party and its alliance partners, Khatana said that the opposition is trying to divide society along caste lines for political gains. “During its 60 years of rule, Congress weakened the Constitution and diluted its original spirit through more than 70 amendments. The same party that imposed the Emergency, throttled democracy, censored the media, and jailed lakhs of citizens now pretends to be the guardian of the Constitution.

Their hypocrisy stands exposed,” he remarked.Khatana further said that historic corrections have been made in recent years to truly implement Dr. Ambedkar’s vision. “The abrogation of Article 370 was one of the most important constitutional decisions since independence. For the first time, Jammu & Kashmir became fully integrated with the rest of the country—One Nation, One Constitution. This step ended decades of discrimination that various communities had faced,” he said.

He added that ending Article 370 ensured equal rights and protections for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women, refugees, Other Backward Classes, Valmiki community members, and other neglected groups who were denied basic constitutional rights for generations. “Removing 370 was not just a political move—it was a constitutional correction that restored dignity, equality, and democratic rights to every citizen of Jammu & Kashmir,” he stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to public welfare, Khatana said that inspired by Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals, the BJP will continue to strengthen democracy, uphold constitutional values, and build a more inclusive, progressive, and empowered India. “Our duty is to protect the Constitution and to serve the people with honesty and dedication. That is the true tribute to Babasaheb,” he added.
