UDHAMPUR: The Social Welfare Department today organised a mega awareness camp on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at Government High School Gandala. The event was coordinated by Mission Shakti Sankalp Hub in collaboration with Child Helpline Udhampur.

As many as 400 individuals attended the programme held under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai and supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta. The theme of the event was ‘Educate the Girl Child and Empower the Nation.’ The event, themed “No to Child Marriage and Yes to School,’ aimed to highlight the importance of education and protection of child rights.

Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur West, Pawan Kumar Gupta inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest. SDPO, Parladh Sharma was the special guest. The MLA also inaugurated a Smart Classroom in the school established by the Social Welfare Department under the SCA to SCSP scheme to benefit the students. He also distributed school bags, wrist watches, bicycles to the deserving girl students and baby kits to new born girl children under the BBBP campaign.

Resource Person Project Coordinator Hari Krishan briefed the gathering on the functioning of the District Task Force and the mechanism adopted to rescue girls subjected to child marriage.

One of the major attractions was a scintillating cultural programme centered on BBBP campaign and presented with active participation from teachers, students, Project Poshan Supervisor, Anganwadi Workers, ASHA Workers, community members, DHEW staff, social workers, outreach workers, OSC team and Child Helpline staff.

Later, appreciation awards and certificates were also presented to   the participants. District Social Welfare Officer, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude for successful conclusion of the program. She also encouraged the audience to apply for financial security schemes such as PMJJBY and PMSBY.
