KARGIL: The medical community, led by Al Reza Health Care & Research Foundation, paid tribute to Dr. Anjana Gupta, Senior Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and Director of Medwin Hospital, Varanasi, for her exemplary dedication and compassion in the field of medicine. Dr. Gupta, who passed away in October 2023, is remembered for her expertise in handling high-risk pregnancies and her relentless service to the communities of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for over 24 years.
In a heartfelt ceremony held after this year’s Free Knee Replacement and Gynecological Surgery Camp in Kargil, organized by Al Reza Health Care & Research Foundation, doctors from the camp, led by Dr. Azam Badar Khan (Dr Knee), HoD Orthopedics District Hospital Kargil Dr. Ahmad Ali, Dr. Azhar, Dr. Shujat, members of Al Reza, and other staff gathered to honor Dr. Gupta’s legacy. Dr. Azam Badar Khan recalled Dr. Gupta’s selfless contributions to the region, stating, “Dr. Anjana made an indelible impact on the lives of her patients, who fondly remember her as a compassionate and caring doctor. She left us shortly after returning from last year's camp, but her legacy lives on.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Gupta, alongside her husband, Dr. Manmohan Shyam, a Senior Critical Care Physician, played a critical role in saving countless lives. Despite the risks, they were among the first private healthcare professionals to provide essential services during the first and second waves of the pandemic. Tragically, while treating patients during a severe dengue outbreak in October 2023, Dr. Gupta contracted a rare form of the disease, leading to multi-organ failure, and she passed away in the line of duty.
Dr. Gupta’s connection with Ladakh extended through her participation in a Super Speciality Medical Camp organized by Al Reza Health Care & Research Foundation, where she and her husband offered crucial medical care to underserved populations. Although plans were made for future services in the region, her untimely passing halted those efforts. She is survived by her daughter, Shivangi, aged 19.
Last year we celebrated her birthday in kargil district govt hospital OT with all ot staff and doctors which was her last birthday celebration and this year we offered her homage on her departure with wet eyes and heavy hearts and prayers to GOD for her eternal peace
In recognition of her invaluable contributions, Team Al Reza, led by Dr. Azam Badar Khan and Dr. Usha Kiran, along with local medical staff, organized this special tribute to honor Dr. Gupta’s memory. “Her dedication, courage, and compassion will continue to inspire the medical community,” said Dr. Usha Kiran during the memorial.
Dr. Anjana Gupta’s passing is a profound loss, but her legacy of selfless service, especially in high-risk and underserved areas, will continue to inspire those in the medical profession and beyond.
