• Stresses on strengthening enforcement, awareness campaign  

POONCH:  Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma today chaired a meeting of the District-Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review the ongoing anti-drug measures and evaluate the performance of enforcement agencies in curbing the drug menace across the district. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a comprehensive review of anti-narcotic activities, including the destruction of illicit cannabis cultivation and the progress of the Nasha Mukt Panchayat initiative across various tehsils.

All concerned officers briefed the chair regarding drug-related reports, ongoing actions and the overall status within the district. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Education Officer to intensify awareness programmes among students in coordination with the police department. He also took stock of any instances of cannabis cultivation and instructed officials to initiate immediate destruction wherever such activities are detected.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized enhanced surveillance in hotspot areas, installation of CCTV cameras, strengthening enforcement presence and sustaining mass awareness campaigns to achieve the vision of a drug-free Poonch. SSP, Shafket Hussain Bhat briefed the meeting on the prevailing drug situation and highlighted the necessity for seamless coordination among all departments. He called for swift and decisive action against any reported drug-related activities.

The meeting was attended by SSP Poonch, Shafket Hussain Bhat, ADC Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, PO ICDS, Khalid Hussain Wafa, SE PWD, Kewal Kumar, ACR, Mohammad Sayeed, ACP, Rakesh Sharma among other district and sectoral officers. SDMs and Tehsildars joined the meeting through virtual mode.
