RAMBAN: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan today chaired the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting to review anti-narcotic measures and reinforce coordination to curb substance abuse in the district.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent Police Arun Gupta; ACD Sheraz Ahmed; Public Prosecutor, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, and officers from various enforcement departments, while SDMs, Tehsildars and BDOs joined through video conferencing.
The Deputy Commissioner issued specific department-wise directions to intensify the anti-drug drive. He directed the BDOs to organise awareness and IEC programmes in every Panchayat twice a week with involvement of field officials from all stakeholder agencies, engaging civil society members, religious leaders and youth.
The DC instructed the Drug Control Organisation to keep strict vigil on all chemist shops, monitor stock purchase, sale records and ensure that no unauthorized drug distribution or misuse takes place.
Reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital, the DC directed the CMO to provide proper medical assistance, counseling and follow-up care to individuals undergoing treatment to facilitate their reintegration into society. He also asked enforcement agencies to continue joint inspections of courier centres, medical establishments and rehabilitation facilities along with sustained vigilance on suspicious deliveries to prevent trafficking of banned psychotropic substances through parcel services.
Reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to making Ramban a drug-free district, the DC said “Preventive awareness, enforcement measures and rehabilitation support must move in tandem.” He called for sustained coordination among all departments, PRIs, youth clubs and civil society to eradicate the drug menace.
