SAMBA: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) today organized an awareness programme at Government Degree College, Ramgarh (Samba) to sensitize students and staff about the rights and welfare of parents and senior citizens, with emphasis on the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

The session was held in the presence of Associate Professor Aditi Khajuria, along with other faculty members of the college, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to actively engage in understanding legal protections available to senior citizens.

Resource persons from DLSA highlighted key provisions of the Act, including the obligation of children and relatives to provide maintenance, the legal remedies available in cases of neglect or abuse and the institutional support systems established for elderly welfare. They also informed the audience about the free legal services and assistance offered by DLSA for filing applications and seeking redressal under the Act.

An interactive session followed, where students and faculty raised relevant questions and discussed ways to strengthen awareness and support for senior citizens in the community. The DLSA emphasized its continued commitment to promoting legal literacy and ensuring that the rights of vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, are effectively protected.
