KATHUA: An awareness programme on the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was today held at the DC Office Complex Kathua. Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Sharma presided over the session attended by public, district officers and field functionaries from different departments.

The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the key features, benefits and eligibility criteria for availing the Scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting rooftop solar adoption for household energy consumption. He explained that the scheme enables households to generate up to 300 units of solar power per month, significantly reducing domestic electricity bills while encouraging clean and sustainable energy usage.

The DC elaborated on the substantial government subsidy, which directly reduces the installation cost and makes rooftop solar a highly affordable option for the public. He urged citizens to register through the national portal and avail the benefits without delay.

Sharing his personal experience, the Deputy Commissioner informed the participants that he had also availed the scheme at his residence. He said the installation process was smooth, the subsidy component was promptly credited and the monthly savings in electricity bills are clearly visible. He added that adopting rooftop solar not only benefits households financially but also contributes to the nation's broader goal of increasing renewable energy capacity.

Speaking on the occasion, XEN PDD, Surinder Bhagat elaborated on the technical scope and operational framework of the scheme. He explained the suitability of rooftop solar set up for different categories of households, net metering procedures, sanctioned load requirements and the long-term reliability of the system. He said the initiative has immense potential in Kathua district due to favourable climatic conditions and increasing public interest in clean energy solutions.

Technical experts from the Department provided a detailed demonstration on system installation, net metering, subsidy disbursement and online registration. Visitors raised queries related to capacity selection, panel maintenance and application formalities, which were addressed by the officers on the spot.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public to take maximum advantage of this transformative scheme and join efforts towards creating an energy-secure and environmentally sustainable future for the district.
