UDHAMPUR: In keeping with the vision of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. Umesh Rai to bring cultural activities closer to students across the Jammu region, the University of Jammu successfully concluded the Display Your Talent 2025 Devika Zone (Udhampur–Reasi) today.
Organized by the Department of Students Welfare, under the overall supervision of Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, in collaboration with Udhampur Campus, the vibrant festival celebrated the artistic brilliance, creativity and cultural diversity of students from affiliated colleges of the region, reflecting the University’s continued commitment to nurturing holistic development.
The Valedictory event was graced by Ms. Saloni Rai, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur, who attended the event as the Chief Guest and inspired the gathering with her motivating address. She praised the confidence, creativity and discipline reflected in the performances and highlighted how cultural platforms help shape well-rounded and socially responsible youth.
She emphasised that culture embodies values, ethics and fundamentals that bind communities together, promotes secularism and unity in diversity, and plays an important role in keeping young minds positively engaged, preventing them from drifting towards drugs or other toxic influences.
Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, also addressed the audience and extended heartfelt appreciation to all participating students for their energetic and meaningful performances. He noted that Display Your Talent is not just a competition but a cherished celebration of creativity, discipline, collaborative learning and academic strength.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Monika Chadda highlighted the visionary reforms introduced in the format of Display Your Talent. She stated that the new model, envisioned by Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, has led to significantly larger participation from students belonging to far-flung and remote areas of Jammu province. She explained that, all affiliated colleges were thoughtfully divided into five cultural zones—Tawi Zone, Pir Panjal Zone, Devika Zone, Ravi Zone and Chenab Zone—and zonal-level competitions were organised across these regions to ensure equal opportunities for every institution.
Prof. Monika Chadda emphasised that this decentralised approach not only celebrates the cultural diversity of sub-regional identities but also strengthens the academic and cultural standards of the University by ensuring broader student engagement and vibrant participation from across Jammu province.
The second day of the festival featured a rich array of events like One Act Play, Mimicry, Mime and Debate, Western Vocal (Solo), Western Group Song, Western Instrumental (Solo), Elocution, Clay Modelling and Group Folk Dance. Students from seven institutions of the Devika Zone, including Bhaskar Degree College, Bhartiya College of Education, GDC Udhampur, GCW Udhampur, GDC Chenani, Udhampur Campus and GDC Majalta, participated enthusiastically and contributed significantly to the success of the festival.
In the results declared today, students demonstrated outstanding performances across all categories. In Elocution, Braniya Singh from Bhartiya College of Education delivered the winning performance, followed by Rashpal Singh from Udhampur Campus and Aman Preet Singh from GDC Udhampur.
In Debate, Amandeep and Bhumika from GDC Udhampur secured the top position, while Manyata from Bhaskar College earned second place, and the team of Rashpal and Diksha Block from Udhampur Campus finished third. Rangoli featured exceptional artistic expression, with Sungadita Pandita from Bhartiya College of Education earning first position, followed by Nidman Arif from GDC Chenani and Vishali Bharti from GCW Chenani.
In Clay Modelling, Pankaj from Udhampur Campus received first place, while Sunakshi from Udhampur Campus secured second place.,In the Group Folk Dance category, GCW Udhampur emerged victorious, followed by GDC Udhampur in second place and Udhampur Campus in third place. In the Theatricals section, GCW Udhampur performed impressively in Mime, securing the top position, while Udhampur Campus earned second place.
GCW Udhampur also showcased strong talent in Mimicry, with Mamta securing first place and Ritika taking second place, both from GCW Udhampur. GCW Udhampur continued its strong performance by dominating the Skit category, followed by GDC Udhampur, with Udhampur Campus securing the third position. In One Act Play, GCW Udhampur received the first prize and in creative Choreography Udhampur Campus Secured First Prize/
During the Valedictory ceremony, Ms. Saloni Rai, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, personally presented the prizes to the winners, adding encouragement and pride to the occasion. Her presence greatly motivated the participants, and she congratulated them for their creativity, discipline and cultural commitment, emphasising that such festivals strengthen positive engagement among youth and contribute to personality development.
The festival concluded on a celebratory note, with the organisers expressing gratitude to the Department of Students Welfare, Campus Cultural Committee and the administration of Udhampur Campus for their dedicated efforts.
