SRINAGAR: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, launched a special awareness campaign aimed at sensitizing people about the various benefits and welfare schemes available for widows. Under this campaign, several programmes, drives, door-to-door campaigns, and awareness activities were organized in district Srinagar and also at the Legal Aid Clinic, Zila Sainik Bhawan.
A dedicated team of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) was selected and deputed for the said campaign, which was conducted in pursuance of the advisory issued by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the protection of human rights of widows.
The campaign was organized under the leadership Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and Patron-in-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority, Justice Arun Palli, and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, Justice Sanjeev Kumar.
The initiative was carried out under the directions of Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Shazia Tabassum, and under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar,Tasleem Arief. The overall supervision of the campaign was ensured by Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, Sajad Ur Rehman.
At Zila Sainik Bhawan, the awareness programme was organized in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Department and Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Forum.
Panel Lawyer, Advocate Laila Khalid, and Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA Srinagar, Safa addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of understanding and availing various welfare schemes meant for widows.
They highlighted the legal rights and entitlements available to widows under different government initiatives and urged the participants to come forward and benefit from these schemes.
The campaign reflects DLSA Srinagarâs continued commitment towards protecting the rights of vulnerable sections of society and ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every deserving individual.
