• DC emphasises strict adherence to quality standards in government works

KATHUA: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jammu today conducted a sensitisation session for District Level Officers here in the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex. Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma; ADDC Surinder Mohan Sharma; ADC Vishavjeet Singh and district officers from across line departments attended the programme.

Director and Head BIS JKBO Tilak Raj briefed the officers on the functioning of BIS and its role in ensuring quality, safety and reliability of products and services. He underlined that BIS certification provides third-party assurance to consumers regarding product standards.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner called for strict enforcement of BIS standards in all government works to ensure quality asset creation and transparency in procurement. He urged departments to incorporate standardisation norms in ongoing and future projects.

The ADDC emphasised the importance of uniform quality protocols across departments to enhance project outcomes. The district administration also called for extending awareness on BIS standards to rural areas to educate the masses about certified products and quality compliance.

The BIS team also highlighted the adoption of certified materials in government projects and explained procedures related to product certification, hallmarking, laboratory testing and regulatory frameworks. Officers were also introduced to the Know Your Standards portal, Manak Online Portal and BIS Care App for verification and grievance redressal.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which officers sought sector-specific guidance. BIS officials assured continued technical support to the district administration.
