RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma  today chaired a meeting of the District-level NCORD Committee here in the Conference Hall of the DC Office to review the measures being taken to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the district.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to tackle the growing threat of narcotics. He directed for enhanced surveillance and monitoring including the installation of CCTV cameras at vulnerable points to track suspicious movements and activities.

The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the training of doctors and healthcare professionals to effectively handle drug abuse cases and provide necessary counselling and rehabilitation support to affected individuals.

Highlighting the importance of legal measures, the DC called for strict enforcement of Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to deal firmly with organised drug-related crimes.

To strengthen community participation, he directed the constitution of village-level committees, particularly in areas along the Line of Control (LoC), to act both as awareness and vigilance groups. These committees will work closely with the administration and police to detect and report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling.

Stressing on preventive measures, the DC urged officers to promote sports and youth engagement programmes as healthy alternatives to drug abuse. He further advised  them to rope in religious leaders and community influencers in spreading awareness about the ill effects of drug addiction.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed for regular checks on courier services to prevent misuse of such channels for drug transportation. The meeting was attended by ADC Chander Prakash; ACP Sheraz Chouhan; ACD Auqil Naveed; DSWO Abdul Raheem; ARTO and other district and sectoral officers. ADCs of Kalakote, Kotranka, Nowshera and Sunderbani, besides SDM Thanamandi, participated in the meeting virtually.
