DODA: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anil Kumar Thakur, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh on Thursday launched the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0 in Doda district. The main programme in this regard was held here at Government ANMT School, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and officials.

Among those present included Chief Medical Officer Dr. Om Kumar; DSWO Zubair Ahmed; Dy CMO Dr S L Manhas; District Health Officer Dr. Raj Kumar; Medical Superintendent GMC Dr. Tanveer Ahmed; BMOs and the Govt ANMT School Principal.

At the campaign launch, a series of strategies were outlined to strengthen the district’s anti-tobacco efforts. These include escalating public awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco, promoting tobacco-free educational institutions, tobacco-free villages, strengthening enforcement of COTPA 2003 and PECA 2019, amplifying social media engagement and capacity building among key stakeholders.

At the outset, CMO Dr. Om Kumar briefed the participants about the objectives and action plan of the campaign. He emphasized the need for community participation and youth engagement to curb tobacco use effectively.

The ADC highlighted the significance of collective action and directed all stakeholders to intensify awareness activities across their respective blocks, involving educational institutions, PRIs and civil society members to ensure wider participation and impact.

A pledge was also taken at the end of the programme, wherein participants vowed to contribute towards creating a tobacco-free environment and spreading awareness against tobacco use.
