The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

KISHTWAR: The Department of Social Welfare Kishtwar, through its Child Help Desk (CHD) team, on Saturday organised two awareness and community outreach programmes under Mission Vatsalya here.

The initiative aimed at generating widespread awareness about child rights, child protection and child safety, while strengthening community participation in creating a safe, secure and child-friendly environment.

The CHD team sensitised members of the public about the key provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the prevention of child marriage and the importance of educating children about Good Touch and Bad Touch. The outreach activities also highlighted the role of parents, guardians and community members in recognising early warning signs of abuse and ensuring the safety and protection of children.

Special emphasis was laid on Child Helpline 1098, informing the public about its availability as an essential support and response mechanism for children in distress and those in need of care and protection. The participants were encouraged to promptly report cases of child abuse, exploitation, child marriage and other violations of child rights to the appropriate authorities.

Through direct interaction, public sensitisation and dissemination of child protection information, the activities sought to strengthen grassroots-level awareness and encourage collective vigilance and responsibility towards safeguarding children.

The initiative forms part of the Department's continued efforts under Mission Vatsalya to strengthen community-based child protection mechanisms, promote awareness of statutory safeguards and facilitate access to care, support and protection services for vulnerable children.

The Department of Social Welfare reiterated its commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of child protection initiatives in the district and called upon parents, educational institutions, community representatives and the general public to work collectively towards building a safe, supportive and child-friendly society.
