The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Friday extended its congratulations to Noman Ashraf (President), Nashra Naeem (Vice President), and Hamdan (Honorary Secretary) on their respective victories in the Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) elections for the 2026–27 session.

The Association also congratulated all the newly elected Cabinet Members and Court Members.JKSA National Spokesperson Dr. Zubair Reshi said that the electoral mandate reflects the trust and confidence students have reposed in the newly elected leadership.

He expressed hope that the elected representatives would live up to these expectations and discharge their responsibilities with sincerity, integrity and an unwavering commitment to student welfare. He observed that Aligarh Muslim University is much more than an institution of higher learning; it represents a distinctive intellectual tradition, a rich composite cultural heritage and a remarkable legacy of academic excellence.

Founded on the transformative vision of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, AMU has historically championed modern education, scientific temper, intellectual inquiry and social reform. Sir Syed's vision of education as an instrument of empowerment and social transformation continues to inspire generations. The university's ethos of Tehzeeb, Tameez and Ilm remains central to its institutional identity and cultural character.

Dr. Reshi further emphasised that regionalism and narrow regional loyalties should have no place in the functioning of the Students’ Union or the broader campus environment. AMU belongs equally to every student, irrespective of their region, state, language, religion, gender or social background. Its diversity must be celebrated as a source of collective strength, fostering mutual respect, fraternity and a shared sense of belonging rather than division or exclusion. The larger interests of the university and its student community must always take precedence over narrow regional or factional considerations.

He added that the Students’ Union must function as a genuinely representative and responsive institution, with its priorities firmly centred on student welfare. Addressing concerns relating to academic infrastructure, hostel facilities, scholarships, fellowships, accessible healthcare, campus safety, equal opportunities and examination-related grievances should remain among its key priorities. The Union must also work towards safeguarding students' democratic rights, strengthening institutional accountability and ensuring that their voices and concerns receive meaningful representation before the university administration.

The Association also expressed hope that the newly elected leadership would foster a campus environment rooted in dialogue, mutual respect, constructive engagement and healthy democratic disagreement. Differences of opinion are integral to a vibrant university, and student politics should serve as a platform for intellectual engagement, democratic participation and constructive debate rather than confrontation or hostility.

Dr. Reshi emphasised that the newly elected representatives must work collectively, rising above individual affiliations and political considerations, to address the genuine concerns of the student community. He expressed hope that the Union would remain accessible to students, engage regularly with them across departments and faculties, and serve as an effective bridge between the student community and the university administration. He further observed that AMU's enduring strength lies in its intellectual vibrancy, cultural diversity, institutional traditions and the sense of belonging it offers to students from across the country. Its distinctive Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, traditions of hospitality, cultural pluralism and academic excellence constitute an invaluable legacy that must be preserved and strengthened.

Upholding this heritage is a collective responsibility of the university administration, faculty, students and their elected representatives. The Association expressed hope that the coming academic year would witness meaningful interventions on long-pending student concerns, stronger student representation, a more vibrant democratic campus culture and renewed efforts towards strengthening AMU's academic and institutional environment.JKSA wished the newly elected AMUSU leadership a successful and impactful tenure, expressing confidence that it would uphold the dignity, traditions and historic legacy of the university while keeping the interests and aspirations of students at the centre of its priorities.
