The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

SRINAGAR: Social Welfare Department (SWD), Srinagar, through SANKALP–Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Srinagar, organized a series of Community Awareness Programmes at Khonkhan, Dalgate, with the objective of empowering women and community members through awareness, information and access to various government welfare initiatives.

A Community Awareness Programme on Financial Literacy, Financial Assistance Schemes and other Social Security Schemes was organized at Khonkhan, Dalgate. The programme aimed at educating participants about the importance of financial independence, responsible financial management, savings and awareness of various government-sponsored financial assistance and social security schemes. Participants were sensitized about the benefits, eligibility criteria and procedures for accessing these schemes so that eligible beneficiaries could avail themselves of the available government support.

Additionally, an awareness programme was organized at Mission POSHAN Zone Khonkhan on the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day 2026. Resource persons from the Department of Health imparted valuable information regarding cancer prevention, early warning signs, risk factors, preventive measures and the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment. Special emphasis was laid on breast and cervical cancer awareness, regular health screenings and adopting healthy lifestyle practices.

The programmes witnessed active participation from women and beneficiaries of Mission POSHAN. The participants were encouraged to utilize the information shared and disseminate awareness within their families and communities.

Through these initiatives, the Department of Social Welfare, Srinagar, through SANKALP-HEW Srinagar, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women's empowerment, financial inclusion, health awareness and grassroots-level outreach by facilitating access to information about various government schemes and services.
