The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

KUPWARA: District Administration Kupwara organised a Tabletop Exercise in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at Handwara and Zachaldara, aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness, enhancing inter-departmental coordination and ensuring an effective response to emergency situations.

The programmes were coordinated by Tehsil Handwara and Tehsil Zachaldara, with Tehsildar Handwara, Zeeshan Khan, presiding over the session at Handwara and Revenue officials at Zachaldar.

The exercise focused on reviewing disaster management plans, assessing the preparedness of concerned departments and discussing coordinated response mechanisms to deal with potential disasters and other emergency situations. The participating officials deliberated on the roles and responsibilities of various departments, communication protocols, resource mobilisation and the timely delivery of emergency services.

The exercise also provided an opportunity to identify potential gaps in the existing disaster response arrangements and explore measures to improve coordination among all stakeholder departments. Special emphasis was laid on preparedness, prompt decision-making and ensuring a swift and coordinated response during emergencies to minimise loss of life and property.

The programmes conducted at Handwara and Zachaldara reflect the commitment of the District Administration Kupwara towards strengthening disaster management mechanisms and building a resilient community through advance planning, coordination and capacity-building initiatives.

In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family
