The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. KUPWARA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Abhishek Sharma, today undertook an extensive tour of the remote and border Machil Valley to review winter preparedness, availability of essential commodities and delivery of public services ahead of the approaching winter season.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner chaired a comprehensive review meeting with sectoral and field officers at the Tehsil Office, Machil, to assess department-wise preparedness, including advance stocking of food grains, fuel, LPG, firewood and medicines, besides the status of power and water supply and readiness of snow-clearance machinery.

Emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts, the DC directed all departments to ensure adequate arrangements well in advance, remain stationed at their respective headquarters and maintain round-the-clock emergency response mechanisms. He stressed that no resident of the remote valley should face hardship due to heavy snowfall or disruption of road connectivity.

The Deputy Commissioner also inspected Food and Civil Supplies stores to assess the availability and quality of essential commodities. He directed the concerned officers to maintain adequate buffer stocks to meet the requirements of the local population during prolonged winter road closures.

During the tour, the DC visited AGS Chountiwari Payeen, where he interacted with students and took stock of the facilities and academic environment. He also interacted with local residents, who shared their concerns and requirements. He issued on-the-spot directions for redressal of several grievances and instructed the concerned officers to resolve the remaining issues within stipulated timelines.

The Deputy Commissioner also expressed his appreciation to the Indian Army for its continued cooperation and support in the region, particularly in facilitating essential services and extending assistance to the local population. The DC reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring effective governance and uninterrupted delivery of essential services to residents of far-flung and border areas. Senior district and sectoral officers accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the tour.
