SRINAGAR:  Hon’ble Chief Minister ShriOmar Abdullah rededicated the renovated War Memorial ofthe Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment in a solemn ceremony marking the 78thraising day of the Jammu and Kashmir Light InfantryRegiment. Raised during the tumultuous days post partition, it drew together patriots across faiths and ethnicities, united by the patriotic fervour and singular purpose, ‘defence of mother land’, against the Pakistani invasion. It is also the only regiment to have begun its journey as a volunteer force.

Renowned for its operational prowess in challenging terrains and its skill in counter-insurgency operations, the regimenthas emerged as one of the most decorated Infantry Regiments which includes oneParamVir Chakra, three Ashok Chakras, tenMahaVir Chakras, thirty-fourVir Chakras and countless other gallantry awards.

Over the decades, the regiment has grown into a formidable force actively participating in key operations and earning coveted battle honours during 1971 & 1999 wars and the newly renovated War Memorial at the Regimental Centre now stands as a poignant symbol of the JAK LI Regiment’s resolve and its unwavering commitment to the Nation. It honours the valour of the regimental heroes who lived by the motto “BalidanamVirLakshanam” (Sacrifice is a Virtue of the Brave) turning their legacy into inspiration for future generations.

Addressing the congregation, hepaid homage to the soldiers and reaffirmed the deep-rooted connect of the soil & spirit of Jammu and Kashmir with the regiment. “The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment embodies the spirit of resilience and patriotism that defines our people.This War Memorial is not merely stone and steel; it is a testament to the sacrifices made by brave soldiers of the Regiment. On the auspicious 78thRaising Day, we renew our commitment to JAK LI Regiment and our Armed Forces, preserving the legacy of their bravery”.

The ceremony was also attended by Dr Farooq Abdullah along with senior Indian Army leadership including Lt Gen Manish ErryColonel of the JAK LI Regiment and dignitaries from the state. The ceremony included poignant wreath-laying and guard of honour at the War Memorial which has engraved names of fallen soldiers in the line of duty served as both tribute and inspiration, kindling deeper respect for the regiment’s saga of sacrifice.
