JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu inaugurated the Leadership Development Program for Young Managers (Batch III), designed for executives from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), at its Jagti Campus on 13th April 2026. The five-day program has brought together 28 participants from various SAIL plants across the country, reflecting a strong commitment towards capacity building and leadership enhancement in the public sector.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Srimant Mallick,General Manager HR - L&D MTI SAIL and Officiating Head of Academics(Online Mode) Prof. Prashant Mishra, Chairperson, Executive Education & Consultancy (EE&C), IIM Jammu; Shri Chandra Nath Kumar, Sr.Mgr, HR-L&D,SAIL-MTI, Doranda, Ranchi (Online Mode); Dr. Harsha Jariwala, Program Director; Dr. Parvathy B, Program Director; and Dr. Sakhti Nagraj, Program Director.

A key highlight of the inaugural session was the address by the Shri Srimant Mallick,General Manager HR - L&D MTI SAIL and Officiating Head of Academicswho extended a warm welcome to all participants and underscored the significance of the program. He noted that participants should consider themselves fortunate to be part of a premier institution like IIM Jammu, especially given its rapid growth and academic excellence among the newer IIMs. He emphasized that the training would be conducted in three phases and urged participants to focus on result-oriented learning.

He further encouraged participants to actively engage with faculty, identify their professional challenges, and work towards practical solutions. Stressing the importance of productivity, cost optimization, digitalization, and innovation, he advised participants to contribute meaningfully to SAIL by developing efficient processes and profit-oriented strategies. He also highlighted the importance of networking, collaboration, and completing project work in alignment with faculty guidance.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, remarked that the program has been carefully curated to meet the specific requirements of SAIL. He encouraged participants to embrace their role as learners, actively engage in peer learning, and contribute meaningfully inside and beyond the classroom. He emphasized that learning at IIM Jammu is a two-way process, where faculty and participants learn from each other, enriching the overall academic experience. He further urged participants to leverage this platform to challenge conventional thinking, build strategic perspectives, and translate learning into impactful outcomes within their organizations. He noted that such immersive engagements not only enhance individual competencies but also contribute to strengthening institutional excellence and industry relevance.

Dr. Harsha Jariwala, Program Director, IIM Jammu in her welcome address, outlined the vision and structure of the five-day program, emphasizing its focus on leadership, adaptability, financial acumen, and entrepreneurial thinking. She highlighted that the program goes beyond theoretical learning and encourages participants to collaborate, apply knowledge, and derive meaningful outcomes from the platform. She expressed confidence that the program would significantly enhance participants’ leadership capabilities and provide a rewarding learning experience.

Prof. Prashant Mishra, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu provided an overview of Executive Education and Consultancy at IIM Jammu, highlighting that the institute has trained over 1800+ professionals across diverse sectors. He emphasized the importance of cross-pollination of ideas, where both participants and the institute benefit from shared knowledge and experiences. Drawing parallels with SAIL’s role in nation-building, he noted that insights gained from such programs are further integrated into academic learning, thereby contributing to the broader ecosystem of management education and national development.

The session also witnessed participant introductions, where executives shared their professional backgrounds and regional diversity, fostering an environment of peer learning and collaboration.The program aims to equip participants with contemporary managerial skills, strategic thinking capabilities, and leadership competencies, thereby enabling them to contribute effectively to organizational growth and national development.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Parvathy B, Program Director, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organizers for their valuable contributions towards the commencement of the program.As the program progresses, IIM Jammu stands at the forefront of shaping future-ready leaders who will drive innovation, enhance organizational performance, and contribute meaningfully to India’s journey of growth and self-reliance.
