JAMMU: With the objective of identifying and extending care to destitute senior citizens aged 60 years and above who are living in isolation and have no one to look after them, the Home for the Aged & Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Ambphalla, Jammu, organised a Community Outreach and Ration Kit Distribution Programme at Government Girls Middle School, Kotli Bhagwan Singh, R.S. Pura.
The programme was organised by the Home for the Aged & Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Ambphalla, Jammu, led by Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary, with the active support of Shri Vijay Gupta, Joint Secretary, Shri Sat Pal Sharma and Sardar Rajinder Singh Managing Committee Members, and Shri Parmodh Kumar, Social Activist who helped in identifying the poor beneficiaries and facilitating the smooth conduct of the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Dinesh Gupta highlighted the growing concern of elderly persons who are living alone, neglected, abandoned, or without anyone to care for them. He made a heartfelt appeal to the people of the area to identify such senior citizens and bring them to the notice of the Home so that they can be provided a safe, secure, and dignified life.
He informed that the Home for the Aged & Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Ambphalla, Jammu, provides completely free residential accommodation, nutritious meals, clothing, medical treatment, nursing care, physiotherapy, emotional support, recreational facilities, and a family-like environment for deserving senior citizens aged 60 years and above who are living in isolation, have no family support, and are free from alcohol and substance addiction. He emphasised that no elderly person should spend the last phase of life in loneliness or neglect when compassionate institutional care is available.
Ms. Ateeksha Sethi, JKAS, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), R.S. Pura, who was the Chief Guest addressed the gathering and gave a detailed briefing on various Government welfare schemes relating to women, children, widows, nutrition, and social security. She encouraged the beneficiaries to remain connected with the concerned Government departments and take full advantage of the welfare schemes available for eligible citizens. She also stressed for sending their children to Anganwadi centres and government schools.
The Headmistress of Government Girls Middle School appreciated the humanitarian initiative of the Home and assured full cooperation in identifying deserving elderly persons from the surrounding villages who may require institutional care. He observed that such awareness programmes help build a more compassionate and responsible society.
As part of the outreach programme, ration kits containing essential household commodities were distributed among deserving families. Dr. Gupta informed that these kits had been prepared from some food grains and grocery items generously donated by philanthropists, donors, and well-wishers to the Home for the Aged & Infirm.
