JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Friday congratulated Prof. Mazhar Asif on his appointment as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi. The Association said that Prof. Asif, who is a distinguished academic and currently Head of the Department of Persian at JNU, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

In a statement issued here, National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, welcomed Prof. Asif's appointment and expressed enthusiasm about working with him to enhance the education system at Jamia Millia Islamia. Khuehami said, "The entire association looks forward to collaborating closely with him in efforts to strengthen the institution."

Khuehami said he is confident that the new Vice-Chancellor would excel in his responsibilities, leveraging his extensive experience to lead the university to new heights and restore its past glory. He added, "There are fundamental issues that require immediate and focused attention to transform Jamia into a world-class institution and a premier seat of learning."

He also emphasized the importance of fostering a student-friendly environment at the university. Khuehami said, "We urge and hope that Prof. Asif will prioritize creating a positive atmosphere on campus, addressing issues such as nepotism, hostel issues, and anti-student policies with fairness and merit."

ā€œWith his academic and administrative expertise, wisdom, and action-oriented approach, we believe that Jamia University will make significant strides in education, research, and improving the quality of student life,ā€ Khuehami said. Describing Prof. Asif as a dedicated academician and researcher, he assured that the Association would extend full cooperation to him in achieving the nation's aspirations for one of India's most prestigious universities.

The Association has high expectations for Prof. Mazhar Asif's leadership and anticipates a transformative and progressive tenure at Jamia Millia Islamia. Khuehami reaffirmed the Association's commitment to supporting Prof. Asif in advancing the university’s growth and development.

Meanwhile, the J&K Students Association expressed gratitude to the Union Education Minister for appointing Prof. Mazhar Asif, a distinguished scholar with more than 30 years of teaching experience, as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. The Association voiced optimism that this appointment would greatly benefit both the university and its students.

Meanwhile Khuehami also highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by hundreds of Kashmiri students at Jamia Millia, particularly in securing on-campus accommodation, despite the existence of a dedicated hostel built specifically for them. He expressed hope that Prof. Asif would address the hostel accommodation crisis affecting Kashmiri students at the university.

Khuehami said addressing this issue would not only provide much-needed relief to Kashmiri students but also serve as a positive gesture in building trust and confidence among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
