BARAMULLA: In a swift investigation, Baramulla Police solved a fatal road accident case within three hours of receiving the report. Police Station Sheeri apprehended the driver and seized the vehicle allegedly involved.

The accident occurred on the Malpora–Heewan Road, where a vehicle reportedly struck 45-year-old Gulshan, wife of Mohd. Ramzan and a resident of Malpora. Two people travelling in an LP Bus 407 (registration number JK05-7249) took her to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sheeri. She later died from her injuries and was declared dead at the health centre.

After receiving information about the incident, Police Station Sheeri began an investigation to establish how the woman was injured and identify the vehicle involved. Although initial information pointed to a red-coloured scooty, investigators’ inquiries and verification led police to conclude that the LP Bus 407 that took her to hospital had allegedly struck her.

Police identified the driver as Amir Majeed Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh, a resident of Fatehgarh. He was apprehended, and the vehicle was seized within three hours of the incident being reported.

A case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Sheeri. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident.

J&K Police said the swift detection reflects its commitment to professional investigation, accountability and timely action in serious road accident cases. The department reiterated that such incidents will be thoroughly investigated and those responsible brought to justice in accordance with the law.
