• From Anganwadi outreach and support for families in need to crematorium infrastructure, a call for a drug-free India and food conservation, initiatives under Seva Sankalp mark 25 years of PM Narendra Modi’s public life and governance

NEW DELHI: Extending the spirit of Seva Sankalp – Rashtranirman Ke 25 Saal beyond its national commemoration in New Delhi, Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), is bringing the initiative’s message of public service into communities through activities focused on welfare, dignity and collective responsibility. Marking 25 years of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s public life and journey of governance, the initiatives reflect how the larger vision of nation-building can translate into practical support for people and their everyday needs.

Strengthening community infrastructure through MPLAD-funded crematorium projects, Dr Mittal has supported two facilities to ensure dignity and better amenities for families during difficult moments. The projects include ₹50 lakh from the MPLAD Fund for a cremation ground in Model Town and ₹1.5 lakh for the cremation ground in Deep Nagar, Cantt, as per the details shared for the initiative. The work reflects the importance of public infrastructure that addresses essential community needs with sensitivity and care.

Taking welfare closer to communities, Seva Sankalp has also included an Anganwadi-related activity, recognising the role these centres play in supporting children and families. The initiative forms part of the broader focus on community-level engagement and public welfare. Specific details of the event can be added once its activities and outcomes are confirmed.

Supporting families facing the winter, a blanket distribution drive in Ram Bagh extended assistance to people in need. The effort reflected the importance of responding to immediate needs with practical support, particularly for individuals and families with limited resources. As Dr Mittal noted in his message on the drive, “Seva often begins with simple acts seeing a need early, responding with care, and making sure no one feels forgotten.”

Through Aashirwad Ka Dhaaga, participants came together around a shared aspiration for a Nasha-Mukt Punjab, a Nasha-Mukt Bharat, and a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Dr Mittal joined the participants in tying his own thread of sankalp, reflecting a collective hope for a healthier society and a stronger India. He described the energy and aspirations of the young participants as particularly heartening, noting that their vision of a stronger Bharat felt very much their own.

Extending the spirit of responsibility to food conservation, Dr Mittal has also called for a people-led movement against food wastage through his #FoodWasteFreeIndia appeal. Drawing on his family’s association with the food business, he has described food as more than business as a blessing, a product of hard work and a responsibility. With over 40,000 students at Lovely Professional University, he has emphasised the importance of mindful consumption, urging people to take only what they need and waste nothing. The appeal connects everyday habits with the wider goals of responsible consumption and sustainable living.

Reflecting on the larger purpose of these efforts, Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal said, “For me, seva is about recognising where support is needed and responding with sincerity and responsibility. Whether it is providing essential facilities, helping families through difficult times or encouraging people to use resources responsibly, meaningful change begins when we understand that the well-being of society is a shared responsibility. As we look towards Viksit Bharat 2047, every such effort matters.”

Together, these activities give a community-focused dimension to Seva Sankalp – Rashtranirman Ke 25 Saal. While the milestone reflects on 25 years of public life and governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the initiatives highlight how the spirit of service can be carried forward through grassroots welfare, essential infrastructure, support for vulnerable communities and more responsible everyday choices.

As India looks towards Viksit Bharat 2047, Seva Sankalp underscores the importance of ensuring that development is reflected in people’s everyday lives in the dignity they receive, the support available to them and the collective responsibility citizens demonstrate towards one another.
