In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

KUPWARA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Abhsihek Sharma today presided over an introductory-cum-interactive session with members of the district’s media fraternity. Organised by the District Information Centre (DIC) Kupwara, the meet aimed to strengthen coordination between the administration and the press for community-centric governance.

The session was attended by ADC Gulzar Ahmad, ACR Peerzada Mumtaz Ahmad, DIO Aadil Manzoor Wani, along with senior journalists and correspondents representing prominent print, electronic, and digital media organizations.

Welcoming the DC on assuming charge in Kupwara, the media fraternity appreciated the prompt initiative in convening the interaction and expressed optimism regarding the tenure ahead. They also apprised the administration of their ground-level operations, challenges, and key requirements to facilitate seamless reporting.

Addressing the gathering, the DC remarked that North Kashmir, particularly Kupwara, is known for its strong intellectual tradition. Explaining that the interaction aimed to gain a firsthand appraisal of grassroots issues, the DC commended journalists for reporting under demanding conditions including inclement weather and disasters, to spotlight genuine public grievances.

The DC urged the media fraternity to act as integral partners in the district’s development. Assuring them of an open-door policy, the DC encouraged journalists to bring forward public issues not merely as administrative matters, but as collaborative partners working in unison to steer society forward.

Earlier, ADC Gulzar Ahmad and ACR Peerzada Mumtaz Ahmad highlighted the media’s essential role in public welfare and called for constructive criticism to assist effective governance. The session concluded with an exchange of ideas on streamlining communication channels and ensuring prompt redressal of public issues highlighted through the press.
